An all-new, spicy murder mystery from Tessa Bailey, New York Times bestselling author of It Happened One Summer. Suspension of disbelief is necessary to enjoy this story, even though it seems as though it is meant to be realistic. Its the kind of story that would have made a perfect wacky 1950s romance movie but with a lot more stream thrown in. 5/23/2023 0 Comments The Long Flight Home by Alan HladThose that do will bring home crucial information. His quest brings him to Epping and the National Pigeon Service, where Susan is involved in a new, covert mission to air-drop hundreds of homing pigeons in German-occupied France. Thousands of miles away in Buxton, Maine, young crop-duster pilot Ollie Evans decides to join Britain’s Royal Air Force. Hatched from an egg that Susan incubated in a bowl under her grandfather’s desk lamp, Duchess shares a special bond with Susan and an unusual curiosity about the human world. All her birds are extraordinary to Susan-loyal, intelligent, beautiful-but none more so than Duchess. After losing her parents to influenza as a child, Susan found comfort in raising homing pigeons with Bertie. Enemy fighter planes blacken the sky around the Epping Forest home of Susan Shepherd and her grandfather, Bertie. It is September 1940-a year into the war-and as German bombs fall on Britain, fears grow of an impending invasion. A USA Today Bestseller Inspired by fascinating, true, yet little-known events during World War II, The Long Flight Home is a testament to the power of courage in our darkest hours-a moving, masterfully written story of love and sacrifice. Once vision loss occurs, the damage to your optic nerve is irreversible. Keep in mind that loss of vision is usually the first and only symptom of glaucoma, so it’s important to get a thorough eye exam by an ophthalmologist to determine if your ocular pressure is elevated, which could make you a candidate for glaucoma. Treatment options include drugs, lasers, laceration surgery, oral medications, nutritional supplements, herbs and other plant remedies, several of which I’ll review below. The only known way to prevent and/or stop the progression of glaucoma is to lower the pressure in the eye. Those with pigment dispersion syndrome or pseudoexfoliation syndrome Factors that raise your risk for ocular hypertension include: Family history of ocular hypertension or glaucomaĭiabetics and those with high blood pressure Ocular hypertension occurs when the front of your eye fails to drain fluid properly, thereby causing pressure to build and put pressure on the optic nerve. Peripheral vision is impacted first, followed by central vision. 1 Glaucoma develops when high pressure in your eye (ocular hypertension 2) damages the optic nerve. Worldwide, an estimated 80 million people are affected, and prevalence is rising. Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in the world. Perhaps it's time for some creativity from authors and editors there. But this seems to be the expected way one ends such a book these days. I do notice that the last chapter of any juvenile narrative non-fiction seems to be the weak point, as the author tries to tie in the events of the book with the present day and/or make connections for the American child-reader. The events of this book may have little bearing on the world today, as astonishing and horrific as it was at the time, but it is moving and fascinating all the same. As is right and proper in juvenile non-fiction, much of the book focuses on children's experiences and memories. The introductory chapters, where we hear about who went to work and who went to school and who stayed home sick and who only went to school in the afternoon, were unbearable as I waited to find out which of these places was safe and which wasn't. Great book! It's the kind of non-fiction I like best, with a combination of facts and personal narrative, all told with a sweeping movement and intensity. Good girl Julie never expected her hot former-player boyfriend to propose marriage. Here’s a first look of its cover and a brief synopsis courtesy of Summit Books:Ĭover: That Kind of Guy by Mina V. Thus, you can imagine why I would grab this chance of joining her latest contest/giveaway of her latest work, That Kind of Guy, which will hit your friendly neighborhood bookstores this April. What I enjoy the most about Mina’s books is that they’re quick and fun as well as witty and heartwarming. So far, I have purchased and read eBooks of Fairy Tale Fail and Interim Goddess of Love via Amazon next up on my list would be getting copies of My Imaginary Ex, No Strings Attached and Love Your Frenemies. Since then, I’ve been looking forward to her works. It didn’t hurt that the kind of books she wrote were those I like to read. The more I asked around, the more I was in awe of her publishing journey. Esguerra and her books through Chachic’s Book Nook and during last year’s Filipino Reader Conference, wherein I remember her speaking during the Q&A portion of the book blogging panel, acknowledging the contribution of bloggers to the sales of her books. She is quick witted and adept at solving mysteries as well as defending herself with a weighty purse which she wields with lethal precision. Jacqueline Kirby is among the house guests but not a member of the Ricardian group, having being invited by her love interest, Thomas. That letter had been lost for centuries and the recent unearthing of the letter purportedly contains additional pages clearing Richard III of the murders of her brothers, the Princes in the Tower. Sir Richard Weldon hosts a meeting of fellow devotees of Richard III at his English Country House for purposes of reading of some scholarly papers, a medieval themed banquet and costume ball, and, most importantly, to announce the re-discovery of a letter from Elizabeth of York in which she declares her love for her uncle Richard. 5/22/2023 0 Comments The sheltering sky book analysisAnd my conclusion - yet more captivating and thought provoking this time round.įirst published in 1949, the author Paul Bowles made his career first as a gifted composer, only returning to his childhood habit of writing fiction in 1945, age thirty-five. So, as much in search of comfort as satisfaction, it appeared logical to revisit a firm favourite. I returned for a second round recently as I had reached that point on my reading journey where I wasn't sure of the next step. That isn't half bad, considering that all I read, no matter how much I revel in the experience at the time, gets cast to the bookcase and the back of my mind to be slowly forgotten. It moved me I found it wholly engaging, complex, mysterious and somewhat disturbing. Paul BowlesSince my first encounter with The Sheltering Sky some years ago, the novel remained in my mind as one that really meant something. 5/22/2023 0 Comments The little glass slipper storyBut scarcely was the marriage ceremony over, before his wife began to show her real temper. The gentleman on his side too had a daughter, who in the sweetness of temper and carriage was the exact likeness of her own mother, whose death he had so much lamented, and whose tender care of the little girl he was in hopes to see replaced by that of his new bride. Indeed, in temper and behavior, they perfectly resembled their mother they did not love their books, and would not learn to work in short, they were disliked by everybody. These she brought up to be proud and idle. She had two daughters with a former husband. Unfortunately, however, the lady he chanced to fix upon was the proudest and most haughty woman ever known she was always out of humor with everyone nobody could please her, and she returned the civilities of those about her with the most affronting disdain. Finding himself quite unhappy about her loss, he resolved to marry a second time, thinking by this means he should be as happy as before. There was once a very rich gentleman who lost his wife and having loved her exceedingly, he was very sorry when she died. 5/22/2023 0 Comments Vittorio anne riceWhen ordering, please include full name and address as well as your phonenumber and email.
