When the story turned dark, it was dark, but GAH.it took so long to get there! I do admit to being impressed that the party scenes were on the money and held up well with the new spin, but the male posturing which came first was awkwardly embarrassing. It took me well over half of the book before I was finally able to see the creepy Poe inspiration at work. I wish I could say the same thing about Dance of the Red Death. In fact, I rather enjoyed it - because the story itself was not suffocated out by the love triangle. The love triangle didn't bother me before. What the heck happened with book 2? It was as if everything I found exciting and infectious (pun intended) about Masque of the Red Death was distorted and lacking this time around. I have at least one thing in common with Araby - her love story was choking me also. "No." It feels like the rope is back around my throat, cutting off my air supply.

She’s old, moody, and so ugly she’s beautiful. What kind of person names their muscle car Ethel? As it turns out, James more than qualifies as offbeat for a number of reasons beyond this strange characteristic: But that weirdness is assuredly doubled at the very least when the name they pick is Ethel. When you think about it, it’s a pretty weird thing to do. There is something inherently a little left-of-center about guys who name their car. Since then, numerous magazine and newspaper accounts have appeared, including Krakauer's own initial firsthand report in Outside magazine, completed just five weeks after his return from Nepal. In all, nine climbers perished on Mount Everest in the second week of May 1996. That this happened to him is a sad and cruel irony." "Rob Hall was a great person and, by all accounts, the best guide up there. Krakauer's own voice slows as he talks about the radio transmissions from head guide Rob Hall, stranded and slowly freezing to death at 28,700 feet. That's journalist Jon Krakauer recalling one of the more wrenching and surreal episodes in last year's disaster on Mount Everest. It was horrifying to think of him up there. With the wind chill at, I don't know-160 degrees below zero. Just think of what he must have suffered that first night in those hurricane force winds. I was lying in a tent inside a sleeping bag with everything I had on, and I was unable to get warm. "His voice sounded like a record played at half speed. 5/20/2023 0 Comments Ghost by jasonIt’ll make you like sports books, even if you can’t generally stand them. When I served on a yearly committee of librarians in New York I’d notice that some books were difficult to get anyone to read. They’ll travel outside of them from time to time but always they return to the books that they like the most. This is a generalization, but in my experience librarians really enjoy reading within their comfort zones.
